TRADE WITH TAURANGA.
UNION CO. CANNOT INCLUDE .PORT IN ITS ITINERARY. 1 . At tho last meeting of the Chamber of Commerce a letter was received from the Tauranga Chamber of ■ Commerce urging the mutual advantage of direct communication bv sea between the Bay of Plenty portand Wellington, On the receipt of this letter a communication was forwarded by the secretary to the Union S.S. Company's manager in Wellington, which said:—"l was directed at tho last council meeting to .inquire ..whether your company had considered the question of the steamers which at present run'via the East iCoast, Dunedin, and Auckland calling: in at Tauranga; whether it is possible for them to call in, and whether tho trade warranted their cnlling in; or whether the port could be served by your company in any other manner." The answer from Mr. W. A. Kennedy was curt and to the point:—"My directors Tegret that they cannot meantime see their .way to include Tauranga in the itinerary of tho company's steamers." On the correspondence being read. Mr. Thos. Ballinger suggested that Messrs. Richardson and Co., of Napier, be written to on tho subject of trade between Tauranga and Wellington. This was agreed to. ■ ■
