It must bo recognised that not only was there a largely increased capital expenditure on the ships themselves, but the cost of maintenance was als6 increasing by leaps and bouu'ds iii every direction. Sooner or later this would have-to bo borne by tho travelling public. All felt this industrial rapacity. Even tho .workers complained that any advance in wages received was absorbed by tho increased cost of living. ■
