THE WAIHI LODES & ORES.

NEW VALUES IN SIGHT. '(By Correspondent.) Auckland, May 4. Further particulars in regard to tho developments on tho bottom level of the Waihi mine (says the "Star's" corrcsSondont) show that both fflo Empiroand oyal lodes have latterly shown much butter values than has been, tho caso for many months past. Tho most important development, of course, is that on tho Empiro lodo going west, where the crosscut, nrojected south from tho quartz body that tho drivo had been following, ran into pay-, able ore after going througji 12 feet of country rock. This has proved to l>o from is feet to 20 feet wide and ivovth nearly .£3 per ton. It would now appear "that the Empire lode going down between tho 1000 ft. and 1150 ft. levels has changed its underlie, and straightened up. considerably, and that the mako of ore now in hand will bo found to continuous both east and west. Tho intention is to drivo both ways. On tho Eoynl lodo west a strong ore body is showing in tho drivo where only olio" wall is exposed, tho width of quartz being about 15ft. This appears to ba similar to a sample a few foot further back, where values were about ,£2'tycr ton. The drivo is close to tho point where a corresponding run of pay ore was met overhead in No. 1 shaft. Going down fro la the 1150 ft. or bottom level two new makes of quarts ore are now bcine intersected. The first one was met witli at a depth of 50.feet, and is about--12 inches wide, carrying payable ore. This has since been located in tho level, and is being driven cast, where tho faco now shows about two feet of milling ore. The second make is 05 foot'down, but li'othiiig lias yet been done. , It is very encouraging to hud that mineral ore" exists at this depth below the present bottom level, and, altogether, tiie prospects arc exceedingly good.
