OLD NOVA SCOTIA FOLK.

THEIR DIAMOND JUBILEE. (By Telegraph.—Spccial Correspondent.) Auckland, May 1. It is proposed to hold a dinniohd jubilee and reunion of the early pioneers of this district and other survivors and descendants of those who, sixty years'ago, left Nova Scotia and settled in. New Zealand. A strong committee has ljeen formed, of which Mr. J. A. Fiulayeon has been appointed chairman, and Mr. J. C. M'Kay secretary. At the first meeting of tho committer it was decided to canvass Waipu for funds, to hold a reunion in 1914, and to erect u monument to Nova Scotia settlers. T'lio 6iiccess of tho canvass has been so marked that it has been decidcd to ask two or three gentlemen in tho respective districts in which these people settled to canvass their districts, and seo what funds can be raised. It is intended to raiso the sum of ,£7OO, so that a monument suitable to the occasion may bo erected.. It. has been suggested that a granite monument, having a picture of a ship on each side to represent the six ships which left Nova Scotia with the settlers, would be the most suitable. The Board of Education is being approached for a piece of ground to erect the monument in the corner of the Waipu Central School ground, in front of the Coronation nail, aud it is hoped that tho unveiling ceremony will take place ou tho re-union day.
