In conference with representatives of the Gfirls' Friendly Society on tho subject of tho caro of female immigrants on their arrival, tlio Hon. H. D. Bell referred to the iiiacurato roport'6 regardinjf the Governments immigration ]iolicv. Some people persisted in declaring tliat the Government had made arrangements (o brini; 25,000 immigrants into tlio' country. Such talk was merely a stupid invention. Tlicv were going .largely to ipereaso tlio mimlior of domestic servontF, and to increase, but not so lfirgely, tho number of labourers. The Government had,not yet decided how maiiy factory lalwurers, if any, it. was expedient to bring into tlio country.
