COURT OF APPEAL.
SUGAR CASE: ARGUMENT ENDS. After. eleven dayg of legal argument, the Sugar Case was brought to a close in the Court of Appeal yesterday. Mr. Justice Williams presided at the appeal, - and sitting with him were Mr. Justice I Denniston,. Mr. Justice Cooper, and Mr. ! Justice Chapman. ' ' The appellants were the Merchants'. As- ) sociation of New Zealand, Incorporated, a trade protection society, Wellington; * the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, I Ltd., incorporated in New South Wales, sugar* refiners and sugar, merchants, I Auckland; Levin and Co., Ltd., W. M. Bannatyne and Co., Ltd., and Joseph Nathan and Co.. Ltd!, all merchants of i Wellington. The respondent was his Majesty the ICing. Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., with Mr. T. , Young appeared for the Merchants' . Association, and for W. M. Bannatyne > and Co., Ltd., and Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., Mr. J. H. Hosting, K.C., of Dunedin, with Mr. H. P. Richmond, of i Auckland, represented the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd., while Mr. M. Myers is in the case as counsel for Levin and Co., Ltd. Tho Attorney-General (the Hon. A. L. Herdman) appeared for tho Crown, and lie had with him .Sir John Findlny, K.C., and Mr. H. H. Ostler, of the Crown Law Office. . Mr. Skerrett, whb'. took up the reply following Mr. Hosking, finished his address at 1.30 p.m. Mr. Myers intiipated that he did not. intend to reply, and this closed the argument.' The Court reserved decision.
