Homo Secretary, in tho House of Commons, amid general cheers, informed Mr. ICeir Ilardie, M.F, for Merthyr Tydvil, that tho police had ! raided the Union's premises becauso tho officials wcro charged with conspiracy and inciting others to commit criminal offences. Mr. Bodkin, K.C., who appeared for tho prosecution at the preliminary calling-on of the cases against -Mrs. Drummonil and Miss ICenney, explained the necessity of suppressing tho danger to citizens and traders consequent on tho Suffragettes' actions. An enormous number of crimes had been committed under the union's auspices, involving great damage to property and risk to life and limb. Vast iiitonvcnicnec had been ondured by tho public for months past, as a result nf outrages which had become of almost daily occurrence. Repeated admonitions, contended the prosecuting' counsel, had heretofore been unavailing, and lie now gave plain warning that proceedings would immediately bo taken against any person encouraging Suffragettism by speeches, publishing or printing tho union's literature, or subscribing funds. He added that, the newspaper "Tho Suffragette" must be suppressed. WHAT MISS PANKHURST SAYS: A STUPID RAID. (Rec. May 1, 11.20 p.m.) Paris, May 1. Miss Christabel Pankliurst, in an interview, remarked: "It was a stupid raid which will not make an atom of difference to I lie Suffragettes.. Wo anticipated the raid, and liad made our plans.
