EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held yesterday, there being present: Mr. Robert Leo (chairman), and Messrs. J. Kebbell, Moss, Wm. Allan, J. G. W. Aitlcen, W. H. Field, W. Freeman,,and A. W. Hogg. Tho statement of finances disclosed a debit balance of .£3527 Ifls. 3d.—the balance on the debit side for the previous month was .£Bl4 12s. 7d. Referring to the board's finances the chairman (Mr. Robert Lee) said that the debit balance showed a largu increase for the period, owing to unusually heavy disbursements. The board's assets, however—prospective funds—represented something like JMOOO, so that on paper the board's finances wci'o quito satisfactory. Already, sinco tho statement was prepared, a sum of .£2500 had come :in, leaving the balance actually at .£1327. The statement and pay-sheet were adop.ed. REFAIRS AND SUPPLIES. On the recommendation of the Works and Finan:c Committee grants in respect of repairs, supplies, and improvements were made to the following schools:— Mitchellto'vn, drainage: Muhunoa, skylight in residence; Otaki, dividing fences) South Wellington, asbestos [lacking for boiler; Toknmaru, renewal felicing posts; Rosenoath, fencing repairs, etc.; Carterton,- lighting headmaster's room (half cost); Training College, alteration, of doors; Pahautanui, residence, renewal of fences (half cost); Kaitoke, tank and platform; Kilbirnie, fencing renewal and repairs (half cost); Newtown, repairs to fence; Mcunt Cook Infant, repairs to fence and lavatory fittings; Mangamahce, refund oil account of residence.
Tlie following were declined:—Takapu,, offer of soliool building; Konii'J. extension of room in residence; Kaiwaiwai, residence . blinds; To Ore Ore,: septic tank. ' Consideration of tho question of drainage at the Mount Cook Girls' School was deferred. It was decided, with regard to the following sites:—To Horo: That offer of site be accented. Upper Ilutt: That further inquiry bo made. ( Library subsidies -were granted to the schools at Muritai, Mauricevjllo West, Kaipnroro, Wadestown. With regard to an application from tho Petone West School for the lining and fitting of the science room—an iron shed at present—the board agreed to allow a £ for £ subsidy up to £70, for the work. TENDERS ACCEPTED. Tenders for school work were acceptcd as follows:— Hutt District High School, storm water drains—C. G. Bond, Petone. Ivakariki, tank—I I '. W. S. Sparkwan. Brooklyn, asphalting—J'hackcr and M'Donaldi Marantii, asphalting—Sergeant and Elton. Judgeford, new latrine building, etc.— A. H. Milambnll. Desks—Saunders Bros. Paraparnutuu, papering and » painting residence —Bourke and Sons. Martinborough, septic tank—No tender. Nsaturi, new latrines —AY. F. Saycrs. Mangahao, new latrines, painting, etc. — C. E. Clifton. Mangamahoe, painting, etc., residence— J. 11. Rastleigh. Kawaiwai, accordcon doors—Sanders Bros.
