ST. MARK'S PARISH.

' BUSINESS MATTERS DISCUSSED,

The annual business meeting of St. Mark's Anglican Church was held last evening, tlie vicar, the Hev. C. P. Askew, 8.A., presiding. : In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet (a precis of which has been published) tho chairman referred briefly to the work of the various associations connected with tho parish. It was, he said, a great joy to' be. able to ,record a year in which tho tokens of God's good hand resting on the parish wero abundantly manifested. Tho total number of. acts of communion limdo during the' year amounted to 4288, as coin'.parctl with 4307 in the previous year. Koseneath showed a gratifying increase— 521,. as compared with.3l6 in 1911-12. i Tho total for the-whole parish'was 4512. a 9 against '1G23 for the previous year. There liad also been 118 baptisms, 31 confirmation candidates, G1 marriages, and 17 'burials. The Sunday School roll contained '100 names, and "it had'an excellent and devoted staff of teachers. All the organisations of the . church were doing excellent work. The great outstanding feature of the year had been the inauguration of the missionary scheme for the "Maintenance of,clergy on fqreign service Wjfo wero-regarded 'as representing ; the parish in the mission field. Personally he had always held.and taught that at.least one-tenth of. the parochial income should be .devoted to foreign missions, and from thd' balance-sheet they would see that iC2'lo.,out of a total of .81800 had been de.ypted to missionary work outside New Zealand so that the proportion was nearly oae-soventh. Ho was- very, glad to see this response, nnd if St. Murk's somo day became known as the "missionary parish" it would, to his mind, earn one of tho proudest titles! that could lie earned. In conclusion, the vicar extended his thanks to the churchwardens and vestry and all who had in any'way assisted tho work of the parish. The adoption of the report and balanceshcet was agreed to without discussion. Officers were elected as under: Vicar's churchwarden, Jlr. W. J. Hu'eston; narishioners' churchwarden, Mr. G. W. Morgan; vestry, Messrs. I'. S. Amsden, G. W. Barltrop. J. Besant, F. .T. Caterer, W. -.T.' Gaudin, JT. K. Hawker, TT. Sanders, E. .T. Hylton, AV. Mndeloy. and T!. T-l. Tiawns- . ley: auditors, Messrs. E. S. Imies and A. li. Goldfinch. Vot?s of thanks were passed to ■ the churchwardens, the vestry, the Sunday School superintendent (Mr. B. P. Bray), and staff, tlio choir, and tho lay hdpors, auditors, and the various guilds associated with the parish.
