MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddel], S.M.) DESIRED GAOL, ONE WAY OF GETTING THERE. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Richard Shields was charged with having deliberately broken a ,£l2 plate-glass window in the shop of Herbert Scaton. He pleaded guilty. Inspector Hendry stated that on Saturday night Shields walked up to the window and drove his foot through it. He then turned to a yjolico constable and said that lie had waited till the officer came along because he "wanted three'months." Shields had only recently come out of gaol where he had been sept for a similar offence. He was sober when he broke tho window. The Court imposed- a sentence of three months' imprisonment. Walter Bennett pleaded guilty to a charge of his having attempted suicide on April ■(. Inspsctor Henclrer stated that Bennett had been employed on. the steamer Sussex and had irone on board and demanded money. When the demand was rei'usori lie hail threatened to commit suicide and had indicted a wound in his throat with n razor. Aceufe'l v.-ys convicted and .ordered to appear tor sentence when called on. OTHER CASES. For disobedience of maintenance orders Thomas Doreen was sentenced to • three months' imprisonment. lor insobriety Mary Reynolds was fined ,55., John Tidball 10s., and John Shannon JM.
