COURT OF APPEAL.
SUGAR CASE NEARIXG THE END. Yesterday's proceedings in the Court of Appeal bring the end of the-sugar case in sight. Argument lias already occupied the Court for eight days and may not be concluded before to-morrow. Mr. Justice Williams is presiding at the appeal, and sitting with him are Mr. Justice Dennistoll, Sir. Justice Cooper, and Air. Justice Chapman. The appellants are the Merchants' Association of New Zealand, Incorporated, a trade protection society, Wellington ; the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd., incorporated in New South Wales, sugar refiners and sugar merchants, Auckland; Levin and Co., Ltd., W. 11. Bannatyne and Co., Ltd., and Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., all merchants of Wellington. The respondent is his Majesty the King.
Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., with Jh. T. Youns, is appearing for the Merchants' Association, and for W. M. Bannatyne and Co., Ltd., and Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd.; Mr. J. H. Hoskinß, K.C., of Dunedin, ivith Jlr. H. P. Richmond, of Auckland, represents the Colonial Susar Refining Company, Ltd., while Mr. M. Myers is in the case as counsel for Levin and Co., Ltd. The Attorney-General (tho Hon. A. L. Herdman) is appearing-for the Crown, and lie has with him Sir John Findlay, K.C.. and Jlr. H. 11. Ostler, of the Crown Law Office.
Tho Attorney-General, who commenced his address on Thursday, concluded veslerday and was followed by Six John Findlay. Argument will be 'proceeded with this morning. ORDER OF CASES. When the Trusts Act case has been concluded in the Court of Appeal, the Judges will hear the Supreme Cotirt case. Perry v. the Commissioner of Stamps. This is to be taken before a Full Bench and will be followed by the Court of Appeal case: the Wanganui v. the'owners, masters, and crows of tho steamships Arauawa and Kaniti; E. C. .T. Stevens and Henry Cotterill v.' tho National Mutual Life Association of Australasia.
