HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT.
Sir,—Tour leading article, and tho reported interview with Mr. Bunny, and numerous letters appearing in The Dominion on tho above-mentioned subject make very interesting reading, and at a first glance the figures used are very striking, but I don't 'think thoso figures prove that tho Hospital Board have -been extravagant. On tho contrary, they show' that the institution has accomplished something very creditable to tho board, and everybody concerned. Tho treasurer's report'shows that during the past seven • tho number of paltients, treated has increased-'IOO ger cent, .whereas the increased expenditure is only twenty per cCnt. To. a commercial m.an such a, result would bo hailed with 1 great satisfaction.
Mr. Bunny says wo must discriminate between what is "desirable aiicl what is necessary." Many people will disagroo with him on thait question, and will say that in connection-with, tho of our sick'that what is "desirable is necessary," and after looking over tho following figures I don't think many ratepayers will cavil at tho expense Capital Tateable values of contributing , . , , Popula- - bodies (estimated).
