GREASY HEELS.
A HORSE COMPLAINT. The following is given by tho Live Stock ftml Meat Division of tho Department of Agriculture as a- euro for groasv heels iu horses:— "Cireaso" is an eczematous condition of tlio skin about tho heels of heavy liairylegged horses, and and in somo strains of blood there is undoubtedly a. hereditary tendency to it.. It is also seen, although rnf 3 * rC( iaontly, in lighter-legged horses. Iho general causo in these cases is irritation, of tho skin by dirt and wet. Tho hair-follicles and sebaceous glands of tho skin, are first irritated and then inflamed. Jnis condition causes an'excessivo discharge from tho gla'uds, and often an enlargement of tho parts; in. somo eases this is so excessive, as to form ' grape-like bunches. Treatment will depend oh tho stago the diseaso has readied. Dually in tho' eorly stages a lotion composed of chloride of zinc, dO grains to tho pint of rnin water, applied twico a day, will be suflieienfc to arrest t'ho condition. Tho best way to apply it is to sop a piece of cottonwool in tho lotion and apply to tho part, securing this by a bandage, which should he applied fairly tigh't so as to exort a little pressure. If tho diseaso has tllo "Stapes" stages, these can only by excision or the hot iron. During the treatment tho legs should ns far as possible bo kept clcan and dry. Any craoks may : bo dressed with' carlx)lised vaseline.
