RIFLE SHOOTING.
HARDWARE CUP MATCH. At Trenthnm oil Saturday the fifth annual match for tliq "Hardware" Rifle Cup was fired. This trophy, a handsome silver one, was presented for teams competition by the firms whoso employees competed. Last year's winners wcro the Odlin Company's team. As both they and Mills aud Company's team had each secured two wins, tho fate of the cup hung in the balance, and the interest in the result was very keen. Tho shooting was a great improvement on .anything previously done in these matches. Every team improved 011 its last year's score. Tho highest score of the match was put on by H. Marshall, of Mills's' team, who made 65, getting 31 at 500 yards; C. Hodder, of Odlin's team was next with 62, making ,tho highest score at 300 yrtHs with 32. Piper and Co. kindly presented a riflo for the highest scoro in.tho match. At tho request of the scratch men, the committee decided to make tho competitions open to handicap men only. This was fired under i sealed handicap, and ns there wcro forty-eight starters, caused considerable interest. P. Noble, of Odlin's, won on tho tie from C. Gasquoine, of Mills's, each making G1 off 'the rifle, but the former making tho highest scoro at 500 yards, with 33, a splendid score. Highest scores:—P. Noble (Odlin's), C.
