HASTINGS NEWS,

(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Hastings, April 27. The Hawko's Bay Boxing Association has received a cable message from the New Zealand boxer, Alf. Bromwich, at present in Australia, agreeing to meet Hegarty in Hastings at an early date. Hegarty is a great favourite with Hastings audiences, and tho match is certain to prove a good draw. To-morrow night the chairman of tho Harbour Board, Mr. A. E. Jull, will address a public meeting in Hastings. There are four nominations for the Hastings seat on the board, namely, Messrs. Eustace Lano (tho sitting member), B. C, M'Cormick, A. L. D. Eraser, and L. W. Fowler. An endeavour is being made to show that Mr. Lane's nomination is informal, as his name is not on tho borough roll. It is, however, on the Napier and the county rolls, and it is claimed that this is sufficient to qualify Mr. Lano as .a candidate for any .portion or the board's electorate. On this point conflicting legal opinions have been given. Mr. Lane personally leaves no room for .misunderstanding, and states most, definitely that lie will go to tho poll. Considerable interest is being taken in tho election, although the result cannot, materially affect tho board's policy.
