A Pahiatua Wedding, A very pretty wedding took placo in at. 1 eter 3 Church, Pahiatua, ou Wednesday, April 23, when Mr. Marcus Herbert, of fcketahuna, youngest son of Mrs. Herbert, ot Pahiatua, was married to s'm S>^ WWa ke,e " 1: ? u ' youngest daughter of Mr. William Wakenian, of Pahiatua. Iho church was beautifully decorated by the brides friends with palms and chrysanthemums. The bridegroom was accompamed by' Mr. Norman Absolum as best man. Tho bridesmaids wcro Miss l'lorrio Allen and Miss Mollio Crewo (nieco of the bride), who wcro gowned in cream satin,- and woro Juliet caps of red and gold. They carried bouquets of red dahlias and Virginia creepors. Miss 1\ Allen woro a gold pendant, and Miss M. Crewo a wristlet watch, tho gifts of the bridegroom. Tho eervico was fully choral. ,

Iho bride was given away by her father, and was gowned in cream satin charmeuse, with pearl trimmings, and over all a handsome laco cuirass. Her veil was fastened with a wreath of orange blossoms, and sho carried a bouquet of whito dahlias, chrysanthemums, and maiden-hair ferns, made by Miss Eva Burgess, Her only ornament was a necklet 'Of African moonstones set in silver. The Eev. C. Isaacson officiated. After the ceremony, the..brido aud bridegroom left amid showers of rice and confetti for "Stonehensc," the residence of the brido's parents, where tho wedding breakfast was served. The usual toasts were duly honoured. '

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert left by the afternoon train, en route for Sydney. The bride's travelling dress was a navy tailored cloth coat and skirt, and black sealskin hat, trimmed with berries.

Mrs. Wakeman, mother of tho bride, wore black satin; Mrs. Herbert, mother of tho bridegroom, black silk; Mrs. J. D. C. Crewe (sister of tho bride), cream satin »?d lace overdress; Mrs. Jeffery (sister of the bride), cream Oriental 6atin draped with lace;. Mrs. Cowlam and Mrs. Preston, sisters of tho bridegroom, blue coats and skirts; Mrs. A. H: Herbert, black coat and skirt.

Others present at the breakfast were— Mesdames Cody and Isaacson, and the Misses Allen and Marshall, Messrs. N. Absolum, J. D. C. Crewe, A. H. Herbert, T. L. Herbert, J. Herbert, and the Eev. Isaacson. In the afternoon a reception was held by Mrs. Wakeman, at "Stone-: henge," which was largely attended. A Clive Wedding, i At the Clive Catholic Church (Hawke's Bay) Miss Beatrice Victoria Burns, second daughter of Mr. J. Burns, of "The Pines," Clive. was married on Wednesday to Sir. T. O'Keefe, oldest son of Mr. A. O'Keefe, of Port William, Killarney, Ireland, by the Eev. Father Mahoner, assisted by the Very Eev. Dean Smyth, Very Eev. Father Keogh, and j:he Eev. Father Sullivan. The bride, who Tfas prettily gowned in cream crepe de chene, was given away , by her father. Tho Misses Hilda and Eileen Burns, sisters' of the bride, 'were her bridesmaids, and wore cream ninon do soie, and black velvet hats., Mr. Leo Burns, brother of the bride, was best man, and Mr. A. O'Kecfo, tho bridegroom's brother, was groomsman. The church was decorated by friends of the bride and bridegroom, and thero was a large attendance of friends at tho ceremony. Tho guests were afterwards entertained by Mr. nnd Mrs. Burns.

St. Mary's Guild. The annual meeting of St. Mary's Guild, which controls tho management of St. Mary's Home at Karori, will be held in the diocesan rooms, Mulgravo Street, ■on Monday at 3 p.m. The report and bal-ance-sheet will be presented, and- addresses explaining tho work of the institution will bo given. All who aro in sympathy with tho objects of tho liomo aro cordially invitedto bo present. Protection of Women, A meeting of the Society for tho Protection of Women and Children was held on Friday afternoon. Mb. A. R. Atkinson presided. There were present: Lady Stout, Mesdames, G. Ponsonby, D. M'Laren. C. H! Izard, A. A. Corrigan. ,G. Winder, and Glover. A number of oases wore reported upon as having been investigated and attended to. The following subscrintions were acknowledged:— Messrs. Roliorts, N.Z., Ltd., 10s.; Dr. Harty, 7s. Gd.; Mr. Frost, ss. Mrs. H. D. 801 l and tho Misses Bell returned to Wellington yesterday by tho Moana from their visit to England. Miss Hesketh, of Palmerston North, was a passenger by tho Tahiti yesterday en routo for America and tho Continent. Mrs. John Marshall, Tntutotara, Marton, and Miss Marshall returned to tho Rangitikei on Thursday from their visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cooko leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, where thev will join the llotorua en routo for South America. Mr. Cooko is an artist in the employ of tho Canadian Pacific Railway Company, and lias been travelling in New Zealand for some time. Dr. and Mrs. T. L. Crooko wore entertained on Wednesday o coning by tho people of Eotorua prior to departing for tho south. Dr. Crooko camo from Christclrarcli, and has decided to resume practice there. While in Rotorua tho doctor and his wife were very popular. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Donald, of Auckland, left Wellington by tho mail steamer for San Francisco, on routo for Great Britain, wliero they will remain for somo time. Mrs. T. C. Williams, Miss Williams, and Mr. and Mrs.'A. E. Russell, of Hobson Street, are to leave Auckland for Vancouver, en route to England, by tho Niagara on May 9.

The Junior assemblies. The first for this season of the series of junior assemblies organised by a committeo of ladies for Miss Borlaso was held in the Goring Street ITnll lust eveniiiff and was attended by a largo number of young people. Last year they were extremely popular and apparently they will lie so this year. The stage and sup. per rooni i had been prettily decorated for I,he occasion, and tho ehnperones, as last season, watched tho dancers with a kindly interest in their enjoyment. Tho following are included in the list or chapcrones for tho .season: Hiss Coalcs, Mesdamcs Bruce, W. Clayton, R. W. Kaue, Morton, Clark, C. D. Morpeth, OsborneGibbes, L. C. Rosgruge, and J. W. Wallace. The next of a series of health talks will be eiveu this evening at' 8 'p.m. in tho Y.W.C.A. Rooms in Fowldss Building, Herbert Street, when Dr. Whyto will speak upon "Total Abstinence." Members of tho Women' 9 Christian Tcinperanco Union and all other interested in tho subject are cordially invited' to attend. "Everylady's Journal" for April, roccived from Sydney recently, is, as usual, full of interesting matter, and it would bo difficult for any woman to find it lacking in au appeal to her tastos.
