HALF-HOLIDAY POLL "OFF." (From 'Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, April 25. Messrs. Hollings and Priignell, : solicitors to the Masterton. -Retailors' Association, were advised this morning- that Mr. Justico Edwards had granted an injunction, restraining the returning officer from taking a poll on tho question of the statutoryl half-holiday. The ground of, tho injunction is that tho petition asking t for tho poll does .not contain -tho requisite number of names. It appears that a num-' ber of tho names on the* petition appear on this year's burgess list, instead of on that of last year. Tho retailers of tho town liavo beon put to considerable expense in the matter. Not a little excitement was caused on the Masterton racecourse yesterday by the appearauco in the crowd of a man who had divested himself of every article of his clothing with tho exception "of his shirt. The polico took him into custody. Tiho annual meeting of tho Masterton Centre of the / Farmers' Union is to be held to-morrow, ivhen an address will bo dolivcrcd by Mr. A. 11. Cockayne, Government Biologist. s - . A Lansdowno lady sustained a-severe shaking last night through h«r horso stumbling in tho main thoroughfare and throwing her heavily to tho ground. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Hockey Association it was decided to suggest June 19 as a suitable date on which to play tho first Norden Cup match against jxelson l'ixtures for tho first round of tho season were drawn. 1 A young-bird race was flown by the Masterton Homing; Club from Blenheim yesterdav.
