THE ATTACK ON MR. HWANG.
ACCUSED REMANDED. By Telegraph—Freas Association—Copyright Melbourne, April 23. J. Chia, who last month shot at Mr. Yung Liang Hwang, Chinese Consul-Gen-oral, was charged in the Supremo Court yesterday. Accused pleaded not guilty of wounding with intent to murder, but guilty of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The prosecution accepted the plea. C'lia was remanded. [The evidence in tho Police Court that Chia, who. was formerly of the Chinese Consular staff, had been discharged from the consulato employ by the Chinese Government. Chia expressed an intention of returning to China, aud sought to oblaiin from Mr. Yung Liang Hwang introductions to Ministers. Ho was annoyed at not obtaining these, and when ho was nsked to leavo tho Consul's olhco 'lie commenced shooting. Subsequently Chia declared that ho intended to kill Hwang because he had abused him, and then kill himsolf.'l
