RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
. (By Tcleiraph.—Press Association.) Invercargill, April 22. The Railway Appeal Board sat in Invercargill to-day. ... j. .Smart, formerly stationuiaster at Lumsdeh, appealed against his dismissal alter 35 years' service. Tho Department had made tho dismissal on the grounds of lack of control and supervision, ana other irregularities in railway working. Tho Chief Postmaster stated that ho considered Smart a very capable officer. Appellant gavo cvidcnco that ho had had an exceptional amount of work to. copa with, which ho attributed to short, ago of the staff. A prohibition order had bc-oa taken out againsit him, but thero was absolutely no necessity for the order being granted. He had been fined ;S2' for unsatisfactory accounting, and had been warned that any further irregularities would sjako him liable to instant dismissal. Decision wa3 reserved. W. S. Pauley, John Slieehan, and William Solomon Shepherds (guards) appealed against being superseded and not recommended for promotion. ' Decisions in these cases was reserved.
