MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Dr. A. M'Artlmr, S.M.) CIVIL LIST. CARPENTERS' AWARD BROKEN. Decision was Riven yesterday by Br. M'Avlhur, S.M., in a case in which Iho Inspector of Awards claimed XlO from the Lower Hutt Borough Council as penalty for alleged breach of the Wellington Carpenters' Award. The allegation liiado against the council was that that body had employed non-unionists without having Riven (he necessary notice to the Carpenters' Union, llis Worship dt'cii.eil that there had been a breach. He imposed a penalty of £2.
PLUMBERS' CLAIM. Dr. M'Artliur, S.M.. delivered judgment in tho case in which Remington nud Co., plumbers, Wellington, sued H. E. Manning, building' contractor, Wellington, for .£B7 for plumbing work done at Short!s' Theatre "as per tender." Judgment was for plaintiff for .£ls lis. 2d. QUESTION OP BOARD. A. .T. George Volkman, engineer, Wellington, proceeded against T. S. Greenshields anil Co., engineers and importers, Wellington, claiming .£23 as twenty-three weeks' board and residence. ■_ This expense was said to have been incurred by plaintiff while working in (lie service of Gfeenshields and Co., at Wangaiiui. Mr. A. Dunn appeared for tho plaintiff and Mr. D. Smith for the defendant. _ The defence was that plaintiff Volkman was not entitled to board allowance as he had been engaged at Wanganui, and not in Wellington. Decision was reserved. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. James Francis i)uggan was ordered to nay Elizabeth Anne Jenkins ~15 17s. by May 6. CARRIAGE CO.'s BILL. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) The New Zealand Express Company, Lid., sued W. Maddisori, carpenter, Wellinglon, for J.'l 15s. 3d. as for work and cartage done ami charges .paid. Mr. W. J. Sim appeared for the plaintiff, and Sir. Jladilison conducted his own ease. The defendant paid ,-Kl into Court and disputed the balance (15s. 3d.). Plaintiff was given j'.ulgni'-nt for the amount claimed with costs 19s. FALLING LADDER. Judgment was delivered by Mr. Riddell, S.M., in tho case in which Thomas Slierlow, jeweller, Johnsouville, claimed .£2OO {rom Joseph Lewis, proprietor of tho Vacuum Cleaning Company, as damages alleged to hayo been caused through the negligence of a servant of defendant's, which servant left standing against a wall a ladder which was blown down and struck defendant. His. Worship ilecidcd that negligence had not been proved. . He gave judgment for tho defendant. POLICE BUSINESS. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.)
