ABOUT THIRTY CASES. ' Ait outbreak of measles occurred on the lonic during her passage across the Southern Ocean, unci when tlio vessel arrived in port on Saturday it was found that about 31 children were affected. As there is at present no room at tho Hospital for these cases, they woro taken across to Somes Island, in the steamer Queen of the South yesterday morning. The "invalids," who are (o dwell ou tho island for some time, comprise tho 31 cases mentioned. 23 mothers, and 17 "contacts."

The Prisons Board will sit in Auckland to-morrow. _ Tho board consists of tho Chief Justice, the Under-Secretary for Justice, Dr. Hay (Inspector of Prisons), and Messrs. F. G. liwington (Auckland). J. I\. Blair (Wellington), G corjfo l'onwiclc (Dunedin), and W. lteoee (Cliristehurch). Tho board (presided over by Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice) will probably sit for two days in Auckland, wlierv, it is ■understood. a good many prisoners have petitioned the board. After dealing with tlio cases in the Auckland Gaol, the board will probably virit the gaols nt the following places:—AVaipa. Ivaingn.rcn, Waikaia, To Avainntu, and Wellington. Air. Kwinglon has notified the Minister for Justice (says tho Auckland "Star") that unless he can bo relieved of undcrtakin" long journeys out of Auckland, ho will resign his position on tho board.
