FRENCH CIRCLE.
At the ordinary meeting of the French Circle, held at the Arts Club-rooms, on Thursday evening, Madame Decleene, one of well-known French teachers, gave an able and interesting lecture, entitled "Victor Hugo, et quelques un'es de ses oouvres." In tho courso of her address, Madame Decleene gave a brief sketch of' Hugo's life and character, before nroceeding to an instructive resume of some of his works. Tie lecturer, who had a Urge and appreciative audience, was well supported during the evening by Madame Decleene, sen., : and Mademoiselle Decleene, who read selections from Victor Hugo's prose and poetry. An animated discussion in French followed, in which several members took part. A hearty vote of thanks to the lecturer and to those who had so ably assisted her was Sroposed by Monsieur Duflou, the, presient, who was in the chair.
