The railway points at Hilchin, Hertfordshire, wore found to be wedged/ ivith stones just before the Great Northern express passed. A young woman was seen on the embankment. A Suffragette plot to bum the "Standard" newspaper offices was frustrated. Mr. Keir Hardio, M.P., chairman of the Independent Labour party, speaking in the House of Commons, condemned the proposed prohibition of Suffragettes' meetings. Ho said if the polico were unable to deal with disorder the militaryshould bo summoned. ■ '. Mr. M'Keima, Home Secretary, replied that the Suffragettes' doctrines, advocating clinics, had roused audiences to such a stale of passion that no police could keep tho peace. THE ENFRANCHISEMENT BILL. London, April 17. The Chancellor of the Exchequer' (Mr. Lloyd-George) announced in tho Houso of Commons that tho Government intended to give May 5 and fi to tho second reading debate on tho Women's Enfranchisement Bill.
