MIRAMAR WORKS & FUNDS.
FOR, YEAR' 1012-12. > At the meeting of the Miramar Borough, Council held on ' Thursday, tho Mayor (Mr. H. N. M'Leod) reviewed tho years Mr.' M'Leod remarked perhaps, there was no other borough in tho Dominion of a similar size which had entered upon so many irnnortant works—drainage, tramways, gas, ferry service, and electric power supply. The principal work in hand was tho power-station, which, would bring Miramar into lino with the latest installations. Tho contract for tho building was .£!>7'2. and tlio contract for Diesel engines .£7082. For (he purposo of supplying un-to-datc wharfage, facilities, traffic rails had been laid from tho 'wharf for.some distance along Miramar Avenue. Thews had been nvailcd of by the Wellington Gas Company, who paid n. minimum subsidy of .8100 per year. During tho year representations- wele mado to tho Railway Department with the- obiect of ascertaining the cost of railwav extension to the district. With the information sunpliod, tho council, would bo enabled to take steps. After referring to. tree planting, the Mayor weiit on to say that arrangements had been made for extending tho drnmajro to two new . localities. By changing from day labour to contract work, a 1 sum in the neighbourhood of .£I2OO wasestiniated to havo been saved on two contracts. A matter of vital importatuw (continued the Mayor) is the cheap communication with the city. During the year progress has been handicapped by. iho insoittion of an extra fare section on the Wellington tram linos. As tho result of •careful deliberation by a special committee, a scheme to substitute ferry communication with a local tram service has been drawn ifp. This has been unmiiniously approved.
