MAIL-ROOM MYSTERY.

Last night a telegraph messenger found ■ the back door of. the Chief Post Offico open, and reported the matter to the senior telegraphist on duty. On the latter jhvestigating ho found several letters lying about the .fleer .of tho mail room; somo having boon opened. Ho thereupon reported the .matter, to the polico, who are making inquiries. All kinds of wild rumours are being circulated to-day > regarding, the matter, but the Post Offico authorities stato that thero has been no extensive jobbery, and there is no evidence of burglary. No. attempt was made on the strong, room, and tho affair appears to be one which concerns tho in?. terior, working, of the office Tather than a case of breaking and entering. ■ \
