OorrtfinonaenU ■•-',.. To Awamutu, April 17. ',: Fine weather prevailed for Wednesday's play in the Auckland 'provincial polo tournament and all tho games were well contested. In tlie third round of the Provincial Cup Ohaupo beat Te Awamutu B 5—2. The game was fairly fast, and at the end of the fourth spell, the scores were: 2 all., Ohaupo showed the better combination and cleaner hitting. The Handicap Cup matches.were commenced and resulted as follow:—Cambridge v. Waitomo: Tho game was all in favour of Cambridge. Scores: Cambridge (handicap 9), 22; Waitomo (handicap 16), 17. Tho best game of the tournament was that between Hamilton nnd Te Awamutu A. Tho pace was exceedingly fast and at the end of the third spell To Awamutu had recorded four pjoals. After that, play was moro even. There were several minor accidents in this game, but no player had to retire. This mutch vis considered the fastest and best game ever seen in tho Waikato. The final , scores were:—To Awamutu A (scr.), 10; Hamilton (handicap 3), G. In to-day's Handicap Cup matches To Awamutu B meet Ohaupo nnd Te Awamutu A meet Cambridge. Tho, finals of the Provincial Handicap Cup \ matches take place.to-mbri'pw. ' ; Tho president of the club (Mr. Win. Taylor) entertained over 100 members and friends of the visiting clubs at his residence, "Qreenhill," last night. The speakers congratulated the Te Awamutu Club on its fine performance at tho Savill Cup competitions,at' Palmerston North, and also congratulated the local club on ils enthusiastic -president. Several spoke in high terms of his valunblo assistance'to polo, not merely locally, but throughout tho province.
