By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright

(Kec. April 17, 9.10 p.m.)

London, j\ i>ril 17. Mr. James Alton, Now' Zealand's Defence Minister, was interviewed as he was starting for Caniulu to-day. Mr. Allen said that the War Office was most sympathetic, and had given him the best advice concerning an expeditionary force. Ho had also discussed with the Admiralty Committee on Imperial Defence concerning New Zealand's adoption of a permanent policy of naval dci'onco. The information acquired would bo of the greatest value in pointing out to tho NewZealand Government what policy ought to be adopted. Tho ideal was that Now Zealand s policy should be co-ordinated with the Admiralty's and Australia's. Mr. Allen added that he found that' everyone at Homo wants closer relationship with tho various parts of the Empire, but he did not think everyone hero understands the situation as it presents itself to tho New Zealander and Australian. It was, he thought, a great pity that more Imperial . statesmen cannot visit New Zealand and Australia. -J/
