"TALI/'FAIR' WOMAN" 1 "SUSPECTED,
(By Telegraph. -Special Correspondent.) Wanganuj, April 17. The Waverley polico |iave received certain information as the result of which business people have been warned not to tako cheques of a suspicious nature in payment for goods. It appears that, on March 29 last, cheques to the number of 2i' were obtained by some individual at the National Bank of New Zealand in Neiv Plymouth. Subsequently three or four small amounts were passed into different accounts, but, on investigation, tho bank officials discovered tlmt tho cheques were valueless. Tho matter was reported to the police, and inquiries wero instituted, but nothing was gleaned beyond intellijrenclo received from three victimised shopkeepers that tho delinquent was a "tall fair woman."
