NEWTOWN CLUB. HILL PINS. In a game for the Hill Pins on Wednesday, the Te Hiwi Club were the challengers. The Newtown Club holders got the lead early in tho game, and succeeded in. retaining the trophies by a good margin of points: Newtown—J. Martin, J. Porter, J. Brackenrid.s;e,' W. Wylie (s.), 25; 'le Hiwi—O'Reilly, Houldsworth, Shallcrass, C. Smith (s.), 15. Friendly games were also played against a team from the Lyall Bay and the Seatoun Clubs' Wednesday men. The former won their gamo by two, but the men from inside the Heads lost by four points, as follows:—Lyall Bay—Barraclough, Stone, Burgess, Fairway (s.), 22;Seatoun —Talbot, Caterer, Spiers, Phillips (s.), 20. Lyall Bay—Crosby, Bell, Castle, Claxton (s.) 23; Seatoun—Alexander, Bradley, JTGirr, Wyatt (s.), 19. On, Saturday last three rinks from Thorndon played at Newtown Results: Newtown—Haycroft, Smith, Laugliton, J. Brackenridgo '(s.), 25; Thorndon—Arden, Hale, Clark, Kerr (s.), 21. Newtown— Mayo, Bailey, Scott, M'Lean (s.), 20; Thorndon—Barraud Brownlee, Kilgour, Chittey (s.), lfi. Newtown—Crengel, Popple, H. Sexton, Wylie (s.), 22; Thorndon —Ramsay, Hatch, Steevens, Dimock (s.), 25. Totals: Newtown, 67; Thorndon, 62. On the.aggregate result, Thorndon won by 5 points, having been 10 up on their own green. The club's teams for Saturday aro as follow:—For Edwin Feathers v. Thorndon, at Thorndon—Warwick, Duff, Jack Brackonridge, Wylie (s.). Versus Seatoun, at Newtown—Salmon, Fisher, J. Martin, M'Lean (s.); Leahy, Chittey, Underwood, J. M. Brackenridge Versus Hataitai—Home: Mayo, Webb, Armstrong, Trevor (s.); J. P. Luke, Scott, Hieginbottom, Price (s.). Away: M'Cumiskey, Popple, Bailey, Laughton (s.); Pankhurst, Flyger, Powell, Bland (s.). HARRIERS. The Central Harriers opened their season yesterday afternoon at Lyall Bay. Dr. Couzens, tho president of the club, was present, and in a few words congratulated the club on its growth from laf.'t year's small beginning. The pack was in chargo of G. A. Soott and C. H. Duck. The course, leading from Hart's Tja Rooms 'along the beach to Seatoun, was v vcry rough in places. A turn was mado through the Seatoun cutting into Miramar, and over the golf links to the Lyall Bay Road, and a run-in of about 100 yards (off scratch) was got off at the finish. The results were:—E. B. Smith, Ist; M. Mulcahy, 2nd; C. Duck, 3rd. After (he run, tea was served at the Kiosk, after which Dr. Couzens congratulated the winner of the first run-in of tho season. Mr. Scott also spoke thanking the president on behalf of tho club for his attendance on the opening day. Next Wednesday the run takes plaeo from Te Aro Baths at 3 p.m. sharp. LAWN TENNIS. BARRY'S CHALLENGERS. London, April 15. A Mokau syndicate. has cabled an offer of a thousand pounds to Ernest Barry, the world's sculling champion to row an unnamed sculler on the Mokau River, New Zealand, in November next. Pcarce, who is to row Barry for the championship, has begun his training work. The critics think his style conforms more to English sculling ideas than that of his predecessors. ' POLO. (By Tcleeraph.—Press Association.) I To Awamutu, April 16. The Auckland provincial polo tournament ,is being continued to-day. Tho weather is perfect, and the games were witnessed by a' lilrgo number of ipcctators. All tho games in the provincial cup competition yesterday wece well contested, particularly that between Te Awamutu A and Hamilton. In this gamo one or two minor accidents occurred, but none of tho players' injuries necessitated their retirement. It was possibly the fastest gamo ever played on a local field. Results:— First Round Provincial Cup.—Tc Awamutu B 7, Cambridge 5; Ohaupo 8, Waitomo 2; Te Awamutu A 7, Hamilton 6. In the second round To Awamutu A had a bye, and tho game Te Awamutu B versus Ohaupo is now in progress. The Handicap Cup matches are to start this afternoon. Tho handicaps are:— Te Awamutu A, scr.; Hamilton, 3; Ohaupo, 7; Te Awamutu B, 7; Cambridge, 9; Waitomo, 16. According to the draw for the first round, Cambridge plays Waitomo, Hamilton plays Te Awamutu A, and Te Awamutu B plays Ohaupo.
