HAPPENINGS AT BROKEN HILL. Sydney, April 16. Developments at Broken Hill anticipated yesterday were not remarkable. Din-in? the day a telegram was received from the Premier, Mr. M'Gowen, intimatingt that the Government could not entertain the unionists' proposal to. tear up the Tarrawingeo railway and relay it to Cockburn in order to provide work for fho unemployed, nor cottld it offer any solution of the difficulty. Reports that the Silverton Tramway Company removed parts of the engines, rendering them useless, and that South Australia has sent a large force of police to Cockburn to protect railway property, threw a damper on the proposal to seize and run the Silverton trains. The men assembled in readiness to carry out tho seizure, but tho leaders took no action. Later, at a meeting, a resolution that 200 volunteers seize the tramway was ■ rejected on the voices, and a 'motion carried to continue the fight. Tho meeting broke, up in disorder.., By ■ permission of the Labour Federation food-vtiifFsand chaff are allowed to be removed from the railway shed. A fortnight's food supplies have been secured.
