LANDLORD RUNS AMUCK.
SHOOTS THREE PEOPLE BEFORE CAPTURE.

John Amos, landlord of the Sun Inn at Bedlington, Northumberland, barricaded himself in, and with a gun resisted service of a notice to quit. After killing his successor's wife and two policemen, ho made his escape. Amos had a dispute with AVoodirons, the owner of the inn, regarding the stocktaking. Woodirons called in the police. Amos shot a constable in a tussle and then reentered the house. • Mrs. Grice, wife of the incoming licensee, was heard at an upstairs window crying out: "Save me!" Sergeant Barton attempted to help her, but was killed. The woman was afterwards found dead in a cellar. Meanwhile Amos kept a crowd of two hundred at bay, threatening to shoot anyone who approached. He subsequently escaped 'by the back of the house. After threo hours' search he was discovered in a culvert, and surrendered when a civilian fired down the drain, slightly wounding Amos's face. ]
