INFORMATION WANTED.
——o— UNIVERSITY TEACHING STAFF. "Rather a strong teaching staff for the number of students," is how Sir Robert Stout sums up tho position in regard to tho Victoria College. At tho monthly meeting of the Council, held last night, he had given notice to move:— "That information as to tho assistance' given to the various professors in the colony and the cost of such assistance with the number of students attending tho various classes be obtained by Iho Registrar." Speaking to (he motion, Sir Robert Stout said that they seemed to have u large number of assistants for every professor. They were giving rather much and ho did not think that they could afford it. There should bo no further increase unless they knew what was becoming of it. It did not appear to be warranted by a comparison of our colleges with others. However, nil ho wanted at tho present stage was tho information. * Mr. it. M'f':illmn seconded the motion, which wit a carried without further discussion.
