Wellington Shakespeare Club. A reading of "Twelfth Night" by the Wellington Shakespeare Club is to lie given in the Town Hall on April 24, in commemoration -of the poet's birthday. The following ladies will take part:—Miss V. Corliss, who will be enst as tho Countess .Olivia; Miss Betty Purdom, as Viola; Miss Stella Putnam will take tho part of Maria; and Miss Gold that of Sebastian. Gift to the Auckland Art Gallery. Visitors to tlie Auckland Art Gallery have frequently remarked on tho beauty and graco of tho 1 statuette inscribed "The Bather" (says the "Star"). This piece of sculpture, which was the work of SI. Brazzanti, of Florence, is the property of the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. I'. Pierce, who loaned it to tho Gallery. The statuette is said to be an original work, and was fought as such by the first owner, Mr. G. M. Waterhouso. It has now been presented by tho family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pierce to the city, the donors being Mesdamcs P. T. Williams, Arthur Kobertson, William Cousins, Percy Upton, and Douglass Hay, and Messrs. A. P. H., G. S„ and. E. H. Pierce. At the Y.W.C.A. There was a largo gathering of girls at the Y.W.C.A. on Sunday afternoon to hear Mr. and Mrs. Alexander, of the Chapman and Alexander Mission, - speak at their Sunday afternoon, service. Tho large, cheery room was crowded, and the singing of Mrs. Norton was thoroughly appreciated. In addition, to the speakers rr.entioned tlicro were on the platform Mrs. J. P. I/uko, Mrs. Rcith, Mrs. Hoby, Miss M'l/ean, and tho general secretary, Miss Birch. At tho conclusion of tho service tho usual Sunday tea was served, and tho rapidity and- deftness with which tho girl members waited upon everyone—fully one hundred and sixty people remaining for it —was wonderful. Mrs. Luke made a brief speech, touching upon tho great use of tlio lmll to tho girls, and how especially valuablo it was to those who were employed in tho city and had to obtain their lunch letween tho hours of 12 and 2. Another material advantage about it was that the tariff was. so >very'i modest. Mr. and Mrs. T). .Logan (Mastorton) pro visiting Wellington. Mrs. Pomare left Wellington yesterday with tho Hon. W. Pomaro for Auckland andVEotorua. ; " Mrs. Percy Haggitt (Christcliurcli) is visiting Wellington,, and is tie guest of Mrs. Lowe for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Basil Donne have returned to Wellington from their visit to Nelson. Mrs. Harold Johnston and Miss Helon Rolleston are staying with tho Hon. H. D. Bell. j ' . Miss Lunn, who has been staying with Mrs. J.\ Darling, left by the Monowai for Gisborne yesterday. ? A picturesque wedding was solemnised ut Westminster Abbey on. Saturday last (states a Press Association, 'message from London), when Lady Beatiice Cecil, eldest daughter of the Marquis of Salisbury, was married to the Hon. William OrmsbyGore, M.P., eldest son of Lord Harlech. | Tho bride and bridegroom received presents from King George and Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. Mirs. Davies (Levin) and Miss Davies aro, in town, and are staying at "Balmoral." Miss Godfrey (New Plymouth) is visiting Wellington. The deputation from ho Y.W.C.A. that waits upon the Minister for Immigration on Wednesday will be introduced by Dr. Newman, M.P..
