THE OPPOSITION PARTY.
A POSSIBLE LEADER. A rumour, with a certain appearanco of probability, at present afloat in political circles is that Sir Win. Hall-Jones, on his return to New .Zealand, will bo usltcd to stand for Parliament at the next general election, with a view to his being appointed Leader of tho Opposition. It is stated tlmt Sir Win. Hall-Jones certainly intends to enter active politics again, and his previous experience as a Minister and as Primo Minister for a brief period after Mr. Seddon's dentil, gives liiiu an undoubted claim to leadership, in Opposition, of tho parly with which lie has hitherto been associated. The prediction gains support from tho fact that Sir Wm. Hall-Jones has been removed from tho bickcrings which liavo riven tfio party noiv iu Opposition during the year or two. It is believed by sorno who are acquainted Vith tho ins ami outs of the political situation that, lie could do more to reunito the scattered' elements of the Opposition than any oilier leader now in sight. It is stated that Mr. T. K. Sidey, membcr for Dunedin South, and Mr. J, Colvin. member for Buller, are unlikely to seek re-election to tho Houso of Representatives when tho present Parliumcnt has run its course.
