$—^, The rendering of Bizet's opera, "Carmen," by the Royal Choral Society in the Town Hall on April 22,. will be the first attempt 'by any New Zealand choral society to undertake such a. work. "Carmen" requires in all ten soloists, and apart from the soloists the music alone is costing the society J3125, which brings the total cost of theL performance up to .£3lO. An excellent cast of soloists lias been arranged. .Madame Carmen . Puisch'of has been specially engaged to sing the part of Carmen, and she left Sydney on. Saturday nfternooni by the Warrimoo. 1 Mr. Frank Graham, late principal tenor of the Carl Rosa Opera Company, will take the important part of Don Jose. Mr. Hamilton Ilodges will sing the part of >Escamillo, aiid should be heard to great advantage in the famous "Toreador" song. Madame Wiclaert will take the rolo of Micacla, Mr. 13. J. Hill Romenado, Miss Muriel Bennett Mercedes, Mr. I<\ W. Laycock Morals and Zuniger, Miss Gertrude Huut I'Vasquita, and Mr. Harry Phipps Dancairo. A rehearsal for the chorus will be held in St. John's Schoolroom at 8 o'clock this evenilig. Thfc box plan opens at the Dresden at 9 o'clock this' morning. .
