Mr. H. Baldwin writes' asking us to insert the following letter, written by him to Mr. M'Dougall, secretary of tho ITuft Ratepayers' Association: —"Dear Sir,—l note iu. tliis morning's paper, Tun Dominion, that ft private letter addressed by myself t» Mr. M'Dougnll, had been discussed at the meeting held by your association last evening, and I must say I am surprised at saino being allowed. 1 also note in tho report of your meeting that I oin reported to liavo paid that I am prepared to contest tlie Mayoral election if I had tho wholo support of your association. This statement is incorrect. I have never asked a member of your association for his ot your support, "and olso refused to join your association fur the same reason. In my letter to Mr. M'Dougnll I said I liad given up the idea of contesting the seat wider present conditions, but if I got the support I considered ] was entitled to I might reconsider the matter."
