OPERA HOUSE. "Sweet County Kerry" again drew a large audience to tho Opera House last ovening. It is quite an attractive play of its kind. Mr. Doone, who took tho chief part of Don O'Hara, tho village blacksmith, was at times delightfully droll. Sir. Doono in this piece added tho art of practical horse-shoeing to his other accomplishments, although it is doubtful if a real blacksmith could beat such an admirable tattoo on tho anvil with a couple of hammers. This evening a domestic drama, "Tho Parish Priest," will bo staged. THEATRE ROYAL. "The Sereaadc-rs" occupy tho wliolo of tho first port of the programme at the .Theatre Royal this week. In tho last two ■ years this form of vaudcvillo has become immensely popular all ov«r tho world, and. it must bo admitted that with good artists thero is great reason for the popularity. Tho Stagpooles are clever acrobatic comedians, and introduco their comic capers into p. "potted" pantomimo. Tho Huxham trio are worth mentioning', and also tho Dentines," who perform such feats of strength with their teeth. - HIS MAJESTY'S. Tho programme this week at His Majesty's Theatre is an entertaining one. A great deal of interest has centred in the picture adopted from Dion Boucicault's Irish play "The Shaughraun." Of tho supporting items, tho "Canine Sherlock Holmes" and the 'Tire-Fighters . of Milan" aro as good as any. Of the comic pictures the one portraying "Tweedledum's Latest Burlesque" is very popular, • THE KING'S.' "Tho Black Sheep" is tho name of .the big picture at the King's Theatre this week. The story involved treats mostly of pioneering life, in Canada, where, according to the pictare, a man needs a cool head and steady hand rather than a taste for the classics. The latest Patho Gazetto is, as usual, interesting from a topical point of view. Thi9 programme will be Tescreened to-night for tho lost time. THE NEW THEATRE. -"The Eyo of tho Idol," at present showing at tho New Theatre, supplies the patrons of that house of entertainment with a novel crime and its detection by jneans of a concealed kinematograph apparatus,. There aro numerous other good items of which tho comic films are really well up to standard. A change of programme is announced, as usual, for Monday, when the star attraction will be a dramatic study entitled "The Last Obstacle." THE EMPRESS THEATRE. Crowded sessions wero the rule last evening at the Empress Theatre continuous pictures. The chief attraction was the A.B. Company's powerful dramatic character study "Tho Tender-Hearted Boy." _ A kindly-disposed grocer boy takes pity 'upon an old woman who is apparently living in great poverty. The boy is detected stealing provisions from his employer in order to help- tho beggar woman, who is in reality, a miser. The lad's widowed mother refunds the amount of tho stolen goods from her son's savings. Tho little home is -gTeatly distressed over tho trouble, but joy is soon caused by tho old miser woman dying, and leaving a largo sum of money to tho grocer boy in recognition of his kindness. The S. and A. drama "Tho Shadow of the Cross," "Picturesque Japan," "Australia's Defence," "Wrongfully Accused," and the A.B. 1 comedy "Oh, What a Boob," also deserve special mention. The series will bo shown for tho last tiino today and to-night. Monday's change will introduce . "A Father's Lesson"' (A.B. drama), and "Tho Fire-fighter's • Lovo" (Seljg "masterpiece"). ;. SHORTTS' THEATRE. There is a. good programme at present being sorcened at •Shortts' Theatre. "Tho Wood : Violet" ia'fho-leading item, and it is'a film of delightful merit. "A Guilty .Conscience" .will appeal to those who appreciate the sensational dn picturedom. Som'o of the comic items aro well worth sieing. The usual change will bo screened on Monday. . SUNDAY CONCERTS. At His Majesty's Theatre to-morrow evening, tho Wellington Professional Orchestra -will appear for tho third time this season. A programmo of exceptional quality vwill bs rendered, including the following items:—March "Cornelius" (Mendelssohn), (a) "Licbestraum" (Von Blou), (b) "Graceful Danoo" (from Henry VIII., Sullivan), "Tho Unfinished" Symphony'' (Schubert), Overture "Mignon" (Thomas), "Valso de Pleura" (Tschaikorsky), and the introduction to third act "Lohongrin" (Wagner). Schubert's symphony, "Tho Unfinished," will be tho "star" item, and, is being repeated by request—it hawing been performed with great musical success during tho Orchestra's last season. The orchestra will bo under tlio conductorship of Mr. Herbert Blov. A silver coin collection will bs made at tho doors. The concert will coinmonco at 5.30 p.m. ; PIANOFORTE RECITAL. Mr. Baxter Buckley gives the first and possibly only recital this season at tho Concert Chamber on Wednesday evening next, when a most interesting and attractive programmo will bo submitted. Tlio items aro selected from Bach, Beethoven, Liszt; MacDowell, etc., and a couple of pieces by writers of the modem Russian school will bo included. Tho Liszt Pianoforte Concerto, given for the first timo in Australasia, is a magnificent work, demanding an attistio interpretation and an almost inexhaustible tccliniquo. Madame Burns makesherreappearanco in Wellington at this recital, and tho Christchuroh vocalist's numbers should bo looked forward to with interest. Mi\ F. R. Johnstono mil play tho Rubinstein 'Cello Sonata, a work 1 full of charm. Tho box plan, is at the Dresden. >
