The basis of unity set out in the printed report of tho Unity Conference was adopted, aiul three delegates (Messrs. Laracy, Cooper, and Townsend} were elected to represent the Shearers' Association at. the July Unity Conference. , A vote of J!10 was passed to the Unity Committeo for preliminary Expenses. It v.-as resolved that the representation at tiio next shearers' conference should bo the president, general" secretary, and seven delegates to be elected by the whole of the members of tho association. Various alterations and improvements in tho general secretary's office were re- • commended, and the instalment- of telephone authorised for next shearing season. , Tho establishment of tire benevolent fund was discussed and referred to the executive, the general opinion being that the cost would bo too great for the association to. undertake. Arrangements were made with regard to the closing of various subscription lists. It was resolved that roll books bs ;printed next shearing season. A motion to allow 5 per cent, commission on sale of tickets was defeated. It was resolved that any man who was a financial member of tho association last, year, or . any mail 1 willing to become a finaJieial member immediately, should bo allowed to act as shed representative, i It was resolved t'.iat a record of tho earnings of shed hands and sliearers should bo kept; and that tho union rate for erutcliing be 4s. lid. per 100 and found or 13s. Gd. per day and found. It was decided that tho Jiext agreement or award, policy rules, and somo extracts from conference report should be printed in Maori for tho benefit of the Native members of the Shearers' Association. Tho remits regarding shed hands and other workers, whose 'award does not expire until 1911, were filed for referenco to next conference. It was decided that Rule 65, regarding date of nomination, be strictly adhered to. Resolutions condemning the compulsory clauses of tho Defence Act, and regretting the departure of Mr. Ross, editor "Maoriland Worker," and wishing him success in his new iiphere, were passed. A Rules Committ'M was set up to go into and reviso the. rules to date. Votes of thanks to the president, general secretary, Mr. M'Li:>od (retiring member of the executive), aid tho reporter closed the proceedings.
