PHILATELY.
Sir, Several of your philatelic correspondents have just been writing on the mysterious science they call "Philately." Though it is a well-known hobby , with philatelists to collect, classify, arrange, and study stamps, the name they givo their science is taken from two words, "philos" (loving) and "atelcia" (exemption from taxation). If, then, their description of themselves is true, they arc people who love to escape without paving their taxes, and .should be looked after by Customhouse officers and other tax collectors. I am, however, quite unable to connect them in any way with 'efforts or skill of this kind, and consider them .merely the victims of some jocular individual whom they consulted in the choice 01" a name, but perhaps some of your readers may .'be able to supply definite information\ 011 the point.—l am,' etc., WHAT'S IK A XAJIE.
