SHEARERS' CONFERENCE.
'HIGHER KATES'DESIRED. The Shearers' Conference resumed at 1) a.m. on Tuesday, that being tho seventh day's session. . Un tho motion of Mr. King, seconded by Mr. lamcy, a lkiles Committee and a Demands Coinmitt«o were set up, both committees to sit ::hat night, and bring down a report to . tho conference at 1) a.m. next day (Mr.- Boono dissented to the committee sitting at night)., The committees arc constituted as follow;— Rules Committee: Messrs. Johnson, King, and Towusend. Demands Committee: Messrs. M'Leod, M'Bae, Laracy," Cooper, and M'Lenn'an. Delegates were appointed to meet the sheepowncrs in conierencei Various matters relating to tho demands were dis--cussed .in committee. Tho question regarding the price of ; tickets and size of tickets was- tiiscusssd, und it was resolved that the .secretory and .president attend to the matter ot printing tickets, 011 instructions laid down by conference; Tho question of the appointment of organisers was discussed at length, and finally it was agreed that this matter should be left iu the hajids of tho executive, Mr. Boone dissenting. At 5.30 p.m. the confctence adjourned till 9 a.m. next day. '. 1 EIGHTH DAY'S SITTING. At !) a.m. yesterday the ecnierencc resumed and transacted a quantity of general business. Tho following are,. the demands to be made 011 the sheepowncrs, aild it was re-' solved that tho conference bo held in Christchurch, if poss'blo, as soon as convenient:—' Schedule of Demands. The employer is to have control, as per present award'. ■ ' Hours of Work.—Work to commence ■at 7.110 And erase at 5.30,. with two Imlfhour intervals for sluoke-oh und.one hour for dinner; and, nol; more than eight hours per day io be worked in any one. day; all work to cease at noon on Saturdays. Batrs of Pay.—(a) Tho rato for shearing to, lie not less than 20s. per hundred by machine and 225. Ed...per hundred by blades, and found; (b) an. allowance of Kd. per hundred to -,l;e made for cimbs and cutters, Is. per hundred for shears,, and 2s. per hundred for the uso of all combs over No. 1; (c) tho rato for shearing rams, rant .stags, and double-fleecers' to be double ordinary rates. Disputes.—lf any question shall arise as ■ta .any matter not - provided for ."by this agreement, such question shall . ba settled by agreement between tho - particular employer concerned and tho local representative of tho union (that,, is, the shed representative) appointed for that purpose, and in default of'any such agreement the question shall be determined by tlie S.M. of. tho district, in which the samo shall havo : arisen. Pending the settlement of any such question, work shall go on as usual, and the settlement or decision may be mado to operate retrospectively. At 12.30 tho conference adjourned till 2 p.m. The existing award is IDs. Gd. per hundred for machines and 20s. for blade?, lambs 18s. Gd. . In cases where shearers have to find themselves they ore allowed lis. extra per day. 111 Australia the rate is 245. pfi' hundred. The conference unanimously held that the rates should bo increased in New Zealand.'
