DRAUGHTS CHAMPIONSHIP.
. GARDINER "WINS.; (By Telegraph.—Preße Association.) • Gore, April 2. , The Australasian draughts championship was concluded late this afternoon. The first game resulted in a win' for Gardiner and the second was drawn. Gardiner therefore'wins the title,- a silver cup, to be held, for one year, presented by Mr. Laington of the Working Men's Club, and a cash prize' of .£2l. Hilliker takes the second prize of ,£l3; Calderwood third, .£B. The new "champion played altogether .30 games, and Hilliker 19 in tho present contest. Gardiner' was not in his best, form at the commencement of the tournament and played somewhat patch- ■ ily, but later played, very solidly. This is the third time Gardiner has won the New Zealand title.; The following is the final position:—. - . . Won. Drawn; Lost.
