FIRE AT KARORI.
At about 10.30 last evening n fire broko out in a six-roomed house in Chamberlain street, Itaron. It appears that the occupant, Mr. F. L. 0 Council, an employee ot tlie Harbour Board, returned homo irom work at about G p.m. He lit a ire in the kitchen range and had a cup of tea At 7 p.m. be left homo for town and returned at 10.30 p.m. On wearing iV e house he saw that it was in flames. Mr. William Kaine save the alarm bv ringing up tho central volunteer fire brigade. The origin of the fire is a mysterv. lhere was nothing to indicate that it started in the kitchen. The house, which was gutted, was valued by its owner at .EGSO, and was insured in the Government Office for ,C2!iO. I lie contents were valued "st ,E'JOO, and S insured ill the Phoenix Office for .ii2;i. Jvothina was faved. -Ah'. O'Cqnnell left Wellitiglon for Plim-' merton ]>y the 1,30 p,m. 1 rain ypsterilay.
