MOTOR ACCIDENT.
AN ACTRESS INJURED. MR. ALLEN DOONE HAS A NARROW ESCAPE. Mr. Allen Doone, the Irish comedian, now playing at tho Opera House, is a motorist, and has a racing "National" car. With Miss Edna Keeley, the leading actress of the company, and Mr. O'JJeefe, of the Lower Hutt, Mr. Doone essayed a run to the Lake Ferry, at the outlet to: Wairarapa Lake, on Sunday. As showing the capacity of the ear, the Ferry was reached in a 131) minutes' run from town, over roads that were inclined to bo- greasy owing to the showery weather. All went well until about six miles from Martinborough on the return journey, when rounding a corner on a greasy spot the car "skidded," dashed into the bank and half turned over. Messrs. Doone and O'Keefe managed to retain their seats (tight-fitting racing seats), but Miss Iveeley, who was accommodated with an improvised seat, was thrown to one side, aud the side of her face struck one of the searchlights. Her face was slightly cut, and she was badly shaken generally. She had to retain her bed the whole of yesterday, but was able to appear last evening. When the ear skidded, two of the tires were ripped oft', and had to bo replaced by spare ones. The journey was resumed after a time, but just as tho car was getting into Martinborough, the front axle, which had been cracked in the accident, broke. Fortunately the party was able to find a friendly motorist, who ran them over the mountain and into town, 'Wellington being reached at about 10 p.m.
