Owing to the shallowness of the tides,, oonsfcal boats aro experiencing considerable difficulty in negotiating the Patea bar, The Kapnni was fully loaded with olieesa on. Such a state of affairs is unsatisfactory to shippers, who, as late as Good Friday, paid watersiders no less • than 30s. per day for loading the boats. The cost of working the port is therefore a serious item. At the samp time the value of exports is increasing marvel* lously as a result of the development ol dairying, and during the quarter just ended their value was over .£341,000, cheese contributing J3289,9f0.
