THE FRESH AIR FUND.
A SYMPATHETIC CONTRIBUTOR. "8.R.8.," writing from Longbiish, saysi —"Your .recent article re 'The Fresh! Air Fund' should meet with liberal response from every man, woman, and child in this country. I havo lived in the poor of London and Belfast, and novo daily witnessed the extreme poverty —tiny children, less than linlf clad; less than half fed, with, I suppose, less tlian half a homo, standing in tho gutters chanting souio. childish song in order to appeal for pennies from the passers-by. They aro not allowed on tho side-walks, nnd when one considers tho large sums spent 011 Christinas toys for a New Zealand child, _ one toy probably costing tts much as six months' food for a poor child, should not an effort l>o made ,by all to help swell the Fresh Air Fund? I enclose one pound, and regret I cannot make it a thousand."
