THE CARNIVAL,
| PROBABLE CREDIT: X 2300. No final settlement of the finances of the Citizens' Carnival has yet been made, anq there may be a feiv days' delay, ye,t. Soiie of the books of art union tickets were sent out of Wellington, and the nioiioys and the unsold tickets may not be ietumed promptly. Tho City Treasured (Mr. C. Collins), who is also treasure} for the carnival, stated yesterday tliat I since the balance-sheet had been presented on Friday last showing a credit of 4X273, there had been paid in for art union tickets .£ll2, and J,'is for last Saturday's ' concert. This made tho present oedit £'U2Q. There were still some items'pf expenditure to be met, however. Only £94 had been disbursed up till the 'present, but the total expenses would almost certainly bo less than ,£SOO. Many tickets'had yet to be accounted for, and he had not received the amounts realised by tho .boxing tournament and the bowls tournailent, held in connection with tho carnival. Ho anticipated that the net profit utould eventually be about £2300.
