. . MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was hcht yesterday afternoon, Mr. It. Lee presiding. . Messrs. Hogg, Allan, Field, Aitkcn, Moss, Freeman, and Kebbell were also present. A letter was received from the liongokokako School Committee protesting against tho discontinuance of the supply oi lreo school books. Ml'. 0. Q. \V. Aitken moved that the communication be cent on to the Department.—Carried. Mr. A, T. Maginhity, of Nelson, wrote to the board informing them that lie was again seeking election as the board's representative of the Victoria College Council.—Roceivotl. A letter was received from the Department informing the board that the grants for Various buildings had been increased. —Received. ; The Navy League wrote offering • the board framed copies of Captain Scott's last message for use in the public schools. It was decided to accept tho offer with thanks. • • . . Library subsidies were granted to the following schools, subject to complikncu with tho Department's conditions :-*ohatt, Porirua, KaiptU'oro, Te Ore Ore, Muritai, Newman, Carterton, and Mauriceville. petone technical school. The committee to which was referred the question of increased accommodation at Petono Technical School reported that it had 'conferred with representatives of the managers on the matter, who had submitted' a statement setting .forth'the work being undertaken and tho requirements of the: immediate future; and it recommended that application. b6 made to tho Department for the following increase of accommodation, including that necessary ipr accommodation of the secondary pupilsi—Two. class-rComsj ahd an addition to the workshop of 30ft. x 40ft.; addition to the. urinal. The matter of the erection of an infant school at Kelburne came up for discussion. ~ ,
Mr. Hogg saiil that it seemed; to him that an /infants'. school was badly needed at. Kelburne. In October, the Department liad made a,grant of .E4370 for the ertc* tion of an infants' school, and tlife board had been given the necessary authority to obtain' plans and specifications. • . Fiv-e. months had elapsed before anything had happened, and' he (tho ! speaker) stated that lie had noticed an advertisement in the'paper recently calling for plans.
