YACHTING CRUISE. Messrs. Hamill Bros.'s yacht Ailsa had a rough time when returning to Wellington, after an Easter cruiso in Tory Channel. On Thursday night of last week a party of 6ix left Wellington by the yacht, 'and had a fair trip across the Strait.. After a pleasant time in the Sounds, the orew looked round for a ( favourable opportunity to return, but on Monday it was noticed that a gale was raging in the north. On Tuesday it was decided to leave the channel, and the trew of the yacht Maliina -(owned by Messrs. Moore 8r05.),. kindly offered to give the Ailsa a tow 'through the rip. When the worst part of the water was reached the tow-line parted, and 'the Mahina's engine stopped. A'fierce wind was blowing at thia time, and both vessels were at'the .mercy of the waves. After a time the Mahina's engine • was osjain working, but it wasitoo risky to attempt another tow 1 . The Mahina ran to shelter, but the Ailsa's crew decided to continue the journey. The Ailsa came right across to Ohariu on a staysail in a dangerojis sea, and, well handled, never shipped a. single sea. The party anchored for the night in a sheltered ' bay, and reached port at 6 o'clock on Wednesday evening. -

The annual meeting of the Waiwetu Golf Club was held at Petone last evening. There was a large attendance, Mr. R. C. Kirk presiding. The report and financial statement were adopted. The treasurer reported a credit balance of .£1.5 7s. Gd. • The following officers were elected:—Pre. sident, Mr. E. C. Kirk; club captain, Mr. Simpson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. H. Handcock. The trophies won last season were presented as follow:—Championship winner, Mr. A, Mftcaskill; runner-up, Mr. G. Cook; ladies' championship, Miss Gambriellj runner-up, Miss A Gaynor. Silver button competitions were won by Messrs. F. P. Wilson, A. Hobbs, and G. Cook, whilst Mr. Macaskill and Miss A. Gaynor were winners of a mixed foursome^ An invitation was received from the Hutt Goif Club to be present at their opening on March 12.
