WOMEN CANDIDATES.
FOR AUCKLAND LOCAL BODIES. (By Telegraph.—Press' Association.) Auckland, March 27. .A well-attended meeting of representative Auckland women was held to-day for the purpose of ' nominating two women candidates for tho forthcoming elections, one for the City Council and one for tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The proceedings throughout very enthusiastic. It was unanimously decided to ask Miss E..Melville to dllow lierself to be nominated for.o. seat on the City Council, 'and Dr. Florence Keller for ono on the Hospital Board. In responding, Miss Melville said that she was prepared to contest the election, but it must be clearly understood that sho did so as an independent candidate, and solely as a woman seeking to represent the citizens, and more .particularly tho women'citizens of Auckland. Dr. Florence Keller, who was also present,, said, that she wan pleased to accept nomination for tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Sho thought women were badly needed cu public bodies of that sort. Purity of, administration .would Iks her first conoern were sho elected. A canvassing committeo was then formed. '
