'RAILWAT DEPARTMENT'S POSITION.' _ i At the last meeting of ithe Forty Mile Bush Cheese Factories Association, tho following letter was received from ■ the general manager 'of tho New Zealand Railways:—"With referenco to the re-, solution passed at the recent conference Against ' tho "use of tarpaulin-covered trucks, I have the honour to inform you that as far as practicable the Department provides insulated wagons for the conveyance of cheese traffic, but it would be impracticable .'to supply sufficient of such wagons to meet the greatest' possible de- \ mand at any particular time without incurring, a very considerable expenditure for rolling stock,-which for the greater portion of , the year would be lying, idle and deteriorating. ..When! the demand for wagons for cheese traffic has exceeded tho supply of insulated wagons availablo bogio, wagons,. which aro used for excursion and which have tarpaulin covered canopies fitted have been brought into use. , These wagons provide'.' ample ~ ventilationwhen,,..tho 1 cheese is_ ; in .transit, but jt, wsuallyrihap- ' pens "that the wagons.
